University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
The Research Center Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the center, ensuring efficient and effective execution of research projects and administrative functions. This role requires a combination of strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the research environment. The Operations Manager will be responsible for scheduling and monitoring the work of the Center staff and students guided by objectives and expected outcomes with limited direction. The operations manager will set priorities, carry out initiatives, and implement programs of the Center within prescribed guidelines; help develop partnerships with community organizations and hospitals; and work with Journey Health Foundation and its staff on day-to-day basis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operations Management
Manage the daily operations of the research center, including supply procurement; develop and implement operational policies and procedures; and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., safety, ethical guidelines).
Financial Management
Develop and manage the research center's budget; track expenses and revenue to ensure financial sustainability; and prepare financial reports and provide analysis to stakeholders.
Personnel Management
Help recruit and manage research staff, including graduate students; and address performance issues and conflicts.
Grant Management
Work with University Sponsored Research Program to manage grants; assist researchers in preparing grant proposals; and manage grant administration, including reporting requirements and financial tracking.
Collaboration and Communication
Foster collaboration among researchers and support staff; and communicate effectively with stakeholders, including funders, faculty, and administrators.
Work with IT & Data Manager on development and management of data warehouse; work with legal experts on data access and use agreements; help develop partnerships with community organizations and hospitals; work with Journey Health Foundation and its staff on day-to-day basis; and help manage and monitor sponsored research projects.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in financial management and budgeting.
- Knowledge of research ethics and compliance regulations.
- Experience managing research teams and personnel.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Minimum qualifications: Master's degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., science, engineering, business administration) and 5+ years of experience in research administration or a related field; knowledge of research ethics and compliance regulations; and experience managing research teams and personnel and experience working with economic and health related issues.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of social determinants of health; ability to relate with issues of health and economic disparities; familiarity with research data management practices; and experience with research ethics review boards (IRB).

The Journey Health Foundation Research Center for Health and Economic Analytics (JHC) is a newly established center in Gary W. Rollins College of Business with a significant donation from Journey Health Foundation (https://www.journeyhealthfoundation.org/). The core mission of the Center is to acquire, collect, and curate data related to social determinants of health and economic disparities in the greater Chattanooga region. The Center partners with Journey Health Foundation, local governments, greater Chattanooga area organizations, and other entities and individuals to conduct and publish research related to health and economic disparities and evaluate various approaches to address them.
