Position Description:

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Admissions for Transfer Recruitment, in a team-centered environment, the International Transfer Admissions Counselor represents Seattle University's undergraduate educational opportunities to prospective transfer students and community college partners. This position works with prospective transfer students (not currently enrolled Seattle University students) with an additional strategic focus on prospective international transfer students. the Admissions Counseling team supports all prospective students (Pre-College, First-Year, Transfer and Post-Baccalaureate, and non-matriculated) by providing advising and support through phone calls, appointments, events (both on campus and off), and other outreach programs.

The ideal candidate will be a resilient and innovative problem solver and possess strong interpersonal skills that enable them to develop positive relationships and provide personalized attention to prospective students throughout the admissions process. The International Transfer Admissions Counselor manages all prospective international transfer students and an assigned prospective domestic student group where they are responsible for organizing recruitment activities and communicating directly with prospective and newly admitted students and supporters, as well as international student centers, community college advisors, faculty, and administrators. They are also responsible for the review, evaluation, and initial undergraduate admission recommendations for applicants in accordance with university selection criteria. Working closely with campus stakeholders, the International Transfer Admissions Counselor executes strategies to meet Seattle University's undergraduate enrollment goals. This role is expected to attend all major admissions events (preview days, admitted student days, etc.). Evening and weekend work is required, and frequent, particularly in the fall and spring seasons.

Essential Functions
This position provides information to prospective students, family members, international student centers, community college advisors, and other individuals or organizations involved in the transfer process about the University's distinct academic opportunities. The Transfer International Admissions Counselor will:
  • Plan, develop and implement on and off campus recruitment activities for assigned schools and recruitment regions including up to 5 weeks of travel.
  • Develop and implement strategies in collaboration with leadership for local international transfer recruitment. Meet with prospective Seattle University students through advising appointments, transfer fairs, local international student fairs, community college visits, admissions events, on and off-campus information sessions and group presentations and workshops. Communicate with prospective and admitted students through emails, Zoom and phone calls.
  • Review applications and make admission recommendations for transfer applications.
  • Engage and commit to the work needed to make higher education more accessible, equitable, and inclusive.
  • Support and actively participate in programs and events to support and engage prospective Pre-College, First-Year, Transfer, and Post-Baccalaureate students, their families and supporters, community-based organizations, college counselors, advisors and more.
  • Assist with admissions office coverage and office roles as needed on a weekly basis.

Schedule
Standard hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Evening and weekend work will be required. This role will primarily serve college-age students/adult learners and community colleges in the greater Seattle area and some travel to those locations will be required. While operations are primarily in-person, a hybrid schedule for up to two days of remote work per week is available as operations allow.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and one-year professional work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential job functions.
  • Confidence in speaking publicly to both large and small groups.
  • Well-developed organizational skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and pay strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and supporting diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of college admission trends and issues in higher education.
  • Basic computer/technical skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends, as necessary.
  • Valid driver's license required. Must be able to drive rented vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a student-facing role in higher education.
  • Experience working with diverse young adult and adult learner populations.
  • Experience working with international students (international student center, immigration support, study abroad, international admissions, etc.).
  • Familiarity with international education systems and credentials.
  • Military Veteran and/or experience with working with U.S. Military Veterans.
  • Knowledge of Washington Community College systems and transfer degrees.
  • Knowledge of financial aid trends and issues.
  • Knowledge of federal and state privacy laws.
  • Speaks, writes, and reads one of the following languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Mandarin, Tagalog, Amharic, or Tigrinya. Interested in utilizing language skills to serve prospective students and families in the college search process.
  • Experience using ERP and CRM, specifically Ellucian Colleague system, Technolutions Slate CRM.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $53,000 - $55,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible*
This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training.
