The School of Education within the College of Health, Education, and Professional Studies at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track assistant generalist position. The position will start in August 2024. The ideal candidate would have the following qualities:

A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education with an emphasis on teaching Social Studies K-5 and/or 6-12 or a related field is required. We seek a highly qualified education professional with experience teaching in K-12 settings. Preference will be given to candidates with an emphasis in secondary education or a related field and university teaching experience. This is an ideal opportunity for an established scholar looking for a new challenge in our growing department within UTC's School of Education. Additionally, Chattanooga offers various, varied K-12 classroom settings that interest those seeking to form partnerships and conduct research in urban and rural environments.

UTC's collegial and dynamic Teacher Education Program has 20 faculty, more than 145 graduate students, and over 600 undergraduates. Faculty research interests cover the breadth of the educational field, including curriculum, instruction, technology, and leadership.

The successful candidate will be able to teach a variety of introductory and advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in education and be adept at relating course content to the professional practice and licensure requirements. Candidates with teaching or professional experience in social studies, teaching history, or any related educational field are particularly encouraged to apply. The position requires strong teaching skills, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and service to the institution.

Required Qualifications:
  • Three or more years of experience as a K-12 teacher.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in instruction and supervision.
  • A potential or emerging line of research
  • Willingness to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction.
  • Willingness to assist in reaching additional goals of UTC's Strategic Plan
  • Fulfill expectations for teaching, advising, and supervision.
  • Teach and develop courses consistent with the needs of the School of Education.
  • Support programs and majors at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Fulfill expectations to the School of Education, College, University, and the profession (including, but not limited to, committee work, advising students, maintaining regular office hours, participating in departmental governance, and meaningful participation in department-sponsored educational events).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience developing community partnerships that enhance teacher preparation through mentorship and/or coaching models.
  • Teaching experience in K-12 general education and public-school settings
  • Membership and involvement in professional organizations.
  • Experience with and knowledge of preparing others for successful completion of edTPA
  • Experience with behavior modification for K-12 schools or other educational settings.

Responsibilities:
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses as needed in a teaching-focused department
  • Engaging in an active research and publication agenda
  • Supervising and planning field experiences and/or residency/internship experiences
  • Participating in service to the university, community, and profession
  • Advising undergraduate and graduate students
